Target has announced it will not be selling towels to customers with “non-showering” needs.
The retailer said in a statement Thursday that customers who have no showering needs are encouraged to take advantage of the new towels.
It was the latest move in a battle over towels that has pitted a business that has long embraced a casual lifestyle against a trend that many customers see as an unnecessary burden on their health.
Last year, the retailer was forced to pay $500 million in damages to settle a class-action lawsuit over the policy, and in 2016, a judge ordered the company to pay a $1.3 billion settlement to consumers who sued over the policies.
The company also said it would begin selling the towel at Target’s full-service stores by the end of this year.
The company said it will also begin selling a towel in its new Target Fresh Collection of soft-shell towels.
