Target is offering a laundry detergent for its customers that uses recycled paper towels as a source of nutrients.
Target says the paper towels are “made from a blend of recycled paper and recycled plastic.”
The product, called Target Paper Towels, is available in Target stores nationwide and is expected to be available in select Target stores later this year.
The company says it was created to “make sure Target is providing customers with a safe and enjoyable experience,” and is also looking to address concerns about the health effects of using recycled paper.
Target said in a statement that the paper towel has “a long history of providing an organic source of protein and essential fatty acids” and is made from a “rich blend of recyclable materials, like organic cotton, recycled cardboard, paperboard, polyester, and organic cotton fiber.”
Target’s paper towels were once considered a major source of the company’s organic paper products, but the company said its organic paper supply is now limited, and the company is working to reduce that supply.
Target said it is working with local governments and partners to address the issue.
In the meantime, the company recommends using regular paper towels to wash clothes, but will make the choice to use Target paper towels for other products.
“We’re constantly learning from our customers and looking at our environmental impact and using new ways to meet our customers’ needs,” the company says.
Customers are also encouraged to take advantage of the free Target paper products in their own stores. Tampons: Custom towels can be purchased at Target for $4.99 per roll, and they come in five different colors, including a white, black, brown, orange and green option.
The towels also come with a 1-year guarantee, which customers can cancel at any time.
