Walmart has acquired tampons from the United States for men and women from September, the US company announced on Wednesday.

In the first such deal in a decade, Walmart will also make tampons available to customers in India.

The two transactions mark Walmart’s move into a key segment for the Indian market, where the company already has a strong presence.

Walmart’s purchases have been controversial, with some saying they were unfair to India’s women, with others calling the sale a betrayal of its brand.

In an interview with CNN, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said that the deal will give Walmart “the best opportunities for growth” in India, where it has about 2 million stores.

“The deal gives Walmart a chance to become a part of the Indian economy, a very big opportunity for growth,” McMillon told CNN.

“The biggest advantage for us is that this will enable us to grow the global brand.”

The Walmart deal comes a year after Walmart said it would buy the company’s remaining $5 billion stake in India’s tampon brand, Lidl, from LidLabs.

Walmart had previously said it was considering a bid.

Tampons sold in India can be a source of income for companies in the country, but the companies often find it difficult to sell the products in stores.
